Renovations of Salvation Army parish facilities
- We planned the renovations of four Salvation Army parish facilities
- 2014-2019
- Scope n. 400-600 gross m2
- Location Kuopio, Oulu, Tampere, Helsingin Kallio
- Client Finnish Salvation Army Foundation
Starting point
All of our Salvation Army renovation sites are located as part of an apartment block, partly also on the lowest floors. The spaces in the buildings built between the 1930s-70s were not accessible, and some of the properties also needed moisture technical repairs. It had been a long time since all the previous functionality and surface repairs.
Location
The facilities are located in good, active locations in city centres. For example, in Tampere, we took advantage of the location by planning the conversion of the flea market space next to the parish premises into a cafe-like social service centre Horisontti.
Solution
In the premises of the Kallio department in Helsinki, the task was to improve the function and atmosphere of the parish’s meeting facilities operating in the Salvation Army’s dormitory block, as well as a surface renovation.
An elevator connecting the three lowest floors as well as new access connections, exits, windows and wet rooms were implemented in the premises.
The hall’s technology and stage structures as well as surfaces and lighting were renewed. The goal was realised in a cost-effective manner and emphasising the durability of the materials.
The commissioning of the space took place amidst the pandemic.
